Client Security Alert-Look-Alike Domain

Posted August 6, 2026Audience All clientsStatus No Eastern Point system affected

A recent attempt, caught before it worked

A client contacted our office today after almost acting on a fraudulent request. The attempt did not originate from Eastern Point, and no Eastern Point system was accessed, altered, or compromised. The bad actor worked entirely from the outside, using a message built to look like it came from us.

We are sharing the details so other clients can recognize the same pattern if it reaches them.

What the attempt looked like

The message came from a domain built to be mistaken for ours at a glance.

✓ Genuine
easternpointservices.com
✗ Look-alike
easternpointsservices.com

One extra letter, placed where the eye tends to skip past it. The rest of the message matched our tone closely enough to pass a quick read.

Three signs worth checking every time

1
The sender’s domain doesn’t match exactly.
Check the full address behind the display name, not just the name itself.
2
Something is urgent enough to skip your normal process.
A legitimate request from Eastern Point never depends on you acting before you can verify it.
3
Payment or wiring instructions changed, and the only confirmation is an email or text.
A change like this always warrants a call.

None of these signs proves fraud by itself. Any one of them is reason enough to pause and verify.

What to do if something feels off

Stop.
Don’t reply, click a link, or call a number provided in the message. Responding on the sender’s terms, even to ask a question, confirms your address is active and gives the sender more to work with.
Call us using a number you already have.
Use a number from a prior statement, your own records, or our website typed in directly — never one supplied in the message you’re questioning.
Confirm any instruction change by voice, with someone you know at Eastern Point.
A written message can be forged or intercepted. A voice you recognize, on a number you already trust, is the real check.

What Eastern Point will never ask you to do

We will never ask you to read back a one-time passcode, PIN, or password — by phone or email.
We will never ask you to change wiring or payment instructions based on an email alone.
Any change to payment instructions is confirmed by a phone call with someone you already know at Eastern Point.

If a message claiming to be from us breaks any of these rules, treat it as suspicious and verify independently before responding.

Seen something like this?

Send it our way. We would rather confirm ten false alarms than miss one real one.
